If Neville's toad hadn't gone missing on the train to Hogwarts, if she hadn't happened to overhear the boys talking about her after class, if Quirrell hadn't released the troll into that specific bathroom — nothing would be the way that it is now.

And Hermione knows better than to take those blessings for granted.
